Project - Health & Fitness 2024 Goals
2026-06-05Well, I had injured myself from BJJ practice after writing the previous post and life happened in between and forgot about giving an update and this blog ha!
After recovering, I did become more accountable to myself and reached the 2 out of 3 goals laid out in my previous post. I can run 5km (in perfect conditions) in under 25 minutes. I reached my PBs for bench press, squats and deadlifts. But, because of the calorie intake increase due to more protein consumption, I stayed the same weight.
Calories counting is a mental game that I don't think I have mastered. Its hard to tolerate the calorie fluctuations due to normal life.
The dashboard feature did not get implemented because I invested in a sports watch which helped me track runs and lifts and had fancy charts to see trends.
Things I learnt
- Do not overcomplicate things
- Making small changes is easier then making a big change (related to previous point)
- Just start
- Accountability becomes easier when tracking (hence the investment in a sports watch)
- Its really important to remove friction between you and your goals
- Choose a gym or running area around you that you can reach easily by foot if necessary
- Forming habits is more sustainable then using your will power
- Exercise is awesome not just because of the physical benefits but of the mental benefits. It helps with preparing for a long day of sitting down and thinking hard about coding problems.
